Style Guide

The University of Western Australia Law Review has adopted the style suggested by the Australian Guide to Legal Citation, with the following exceptions:

Books

In footnotes, list authors initials followed by surname;
Use an ampersand [&] to separate names of authors;
Provide details of publisher in brackets.

Dates

Use the abbreviated form of dates in footnotes, unless the date forms part of a sentence.

Ibid

Ibid may be used when referencing legislation and law reports.

1.  Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) s 23.
2.  Ibid s 45.
3.  Mabo v Queensland (No. 2) (1992) 175 CLR 1.
4.  Ibid 25.

Legislation

Legislation should NOT be italicised.

Journals

Do not italicise names of journals and use the abbreviated form.

eg., UWAL Rev not

G Syrota, 'The University of Western Australia Law Review: Past, Present and Future' (2004) 32 UWAL Rev 114.

Section

'Section' should be spelt out in full in the text; only use abbreviation of 's' in footnotes.
